Field Study's Man in E17 says a fox ate his fieldwork

Image
We think a fox has chewed at the side of the polytunnel (of Love Supreme). There were several areas of scratches and holes, including what appeared to be incisor-like patterns of toothy penetration. We have protected the side of the polytunnel before with chicken wire and we may well have to re-install that mesh to prevent more damage. Field Study's Man in E11 was, however, grateful for the foxes' demonstration of creative mark making. The fox's example may be useful in the process of making maps - to recreate an archipelago of windows through which to view and explore the rest of the allotment site.  I am disappointed by the field student's efforts in cartography. He has taken to making excuses for his lack of creative thinking and progress in the field. Last night he tried to convince me that a dog fox had eaten his fieldwork. I said, 'dog's dinner this may be but pull the other one'. Anyway, if the field student is failing to ma

Field Study's Man in E11 is rescued from the jaws of Reynardine

Where has Field Study's Man in E11 been since 3rd November? 14 lost days! I found him drifting between the newly formed islands - Utopias 1, 2 and 3 - in the firmament of, The Polytunnel of Love Supreme. He was in a microscopically wretched state, rag and bone, his clothes as chewed and ragged as the allotment's polythene firmament. When I addressed him as, Field Study's Man in E11, he seemed confused and uttered a name, Will Farnaby, repeatedly, as if I was subjecting him to an interrogation. When I soothed his fevered brow he assumed another name, that of, Robert Maitland. Island and Concrete Island had merged deliriously in the lost days of early November. I had to employ some more subtle techniques by which to coax or elicit a more lucid account of the early days of November 2013. By an elaborate combination of winks, twitches, eye movements and linguistic ploys, I programmed him to tell me a story I wanted to hear. The story is called, 'Downcanal'.  In

Field Study's Man in E11 goes to the 11 corners of some earth

The field student felt some trepidation when he approached the allotment site as he had not been there since the storm earlier in the week. What havoc might have been reaped by the winds? The damage appeared slight with the 'kale forest' worst hit...... ...... though not quite as drastically  as some street side trees he encountered at the time of the storm.  Mile End 28th October. The nights have drawn in and there is much to do about the allotment site in less and less time. Weekday evening visits have stopped and, bar working by headlamp, the work days of the weekend now finish around 5pm (and will do sooner into the winter).  With this imperative in mind, the field student set about making a quick survey of the 11 corners of this humble patch of earth - an effort contrived to convince himself he might just know where he is sometimes. We have our doubts. The field student protested that no surveying should actually be carried out on site and that
